I am in Mourning

Saturday night I got out the next size of clothes for R. She really needed some more dresses for church and I thought I'd see what else we had. In short, not much. R and H are opposite seasons so all of the 3-6 month clothes we had for H are long sleeved and pants. And they were darn cute! Now R won't be able to wear them because it is too warm. Sigh.

A Couple of Recent Funnies

Sunday when I woke H up for breakfast she told me about a dream she had where she and her cousin were making sugar cookies. The cookies had white frosting with chocolate dots and sprinkles. On the way to church I asked her to tell N about her dream. K piped in and said, "I didn't have any dreams because I was sleeping!"

* * * * *

Last Friday when I went to pick H up from school she came out wearing a paper tie and bracelet. I asked what she had learned about thinking it might have had something to do with school. But, no. Zander made them for her. So, yesterday when I went to get her from school Zander's mom came up to me and said that Sunday when she went to pick him up from primary he had a piece of paper sticking out of his pocket. She asked him what it was and he said, "H's phone number." He told her he was going to call H after church. When his mom looked at it it wasn't a phone number, though. I asked H about it and she said, "I didn't give him my phone number. I gave him my house number!"

Ouch!

Today in the car K and I had a little conversation:

K: It isn't good to yell at other people, is it mom?

Me: No, it isn't.

K: But sometimes you yell at me. That's naughty.

Me: You're right. I need to work on that, huh?

K: Yeah, but I still love you.

Me: I love you too, bud.

K: I didn't say we're buddies.

Me: Oh, but we're friends, right?

K: Yeah, just not buddies.

N found the first half of this conversation particularly enjoyable. He likes seeing me put in my place--especially by a three year old!

Bargaining

Tonight as I was doing the dishes K asked for a graham cracker. Here's how it went:

K: Can I have a graham cracker?

Me: Yes.

K: Can I have two?

Me: Yes.

K: OK. I'll have three.

March Madness

Yesterday we filled out our brackets right after breakfast. Well, actually, I filled mine out before breakfast.

See, last year, when left to my own devices, I didn't do so hot. So, being the intelligent person that I am, I consulted my "friends" at CBS Sports. I used their brackets to fill out my own. N has accused me of cheating.

I am winning...but only by 2 games. I was doing really well until the last four games tonight.

The kids really couldn't have cared less about filling out their brackets except that we told them the winner would get to go to Cold Stone. Now they want to know when the games will all be over so we can go get ice cream. (Incidentally, the day of the championship game is the day I get my wisdom teeth pulled. So win or lose I'll NEED the ice cream.)

In case anyone cares, our choices for the championship are:

N--Memphis v. North Carolina with Memphis winning
A--Louisville v. North Carolina with N. Carolina winning
H--Cornell v. Akron with Cornell winning (both teams have already been eliminated)
K--Memphis v. Michigan with Memphis winning
M--Memphis v. Pittsburgh with Pittsburgh winning
R--Michigan State v. VCU with VCU winning (VCU was eliminated yesterday)

Remember My Spider Friend?

His friend baby scorpion came to play last week. Luckily, my little brother came to my rescue. Really, not what I want to see inside my door when I come home from Enrichment.

So, we finally got the pest control guys out today. They were supposed to come on Tuesday, then Wednesday and finally today they made it. I feel much better now. Plus, maybe those noisy crickets won't be chirping all night long!

By the way...they spider? A brown recluse. YAY!

A Little Dinner Conversation

The kids and I were talking over our mac 'n' cheese tonight:

K: All moms are the greatest.

Me: Yeah, moms are pretty great.

H: But dads are really the greatest.

Me: Even better than moms?

H: Yeah. Zander's dad is the best.

Me: Even better than your dad?

H: Well, he DID save Zander from a bear.

Point made.

Ever Find Yourself Bargaining With a 2 Month Old?

It went something like this:

R: {crying}

Me: R, PLEEEEASE stop crying. {gives her the paci, continue to try and load the dishwasher}

R: {spits out paci, more crying}

Me: C'mon, R. Stop for just 20 minutes. {insert paci, continue to load dishwahser}

R: {spits out paci, more and louder crying}

Me: What's the matter, baby? How about 10 minutes? I just need to finish cleaning up dinner. Can you just give me 10 minutes? { insert paci, turn swing on, continue to load dishwasher}

R: {spits out paci, full on wailing}

Me: 5 minutes, R. Just 5 minutes? Then I promise I'll hold you or feed you or whatever you want. Just please stop crying! {insert paci, continue to load dishwasher}

R: {more wailing}

Me: Fine! You win!

So I made her a bottle, took her out of the swing, sat down to feed her and...

SHE FELL ASLEEP!!!
How can you argue with a face like that?

(these were taken this morning, as in BEFORE the crying fit)

Barry Manilow Kicked My Butt!

He had some help from U2, Madonna, Matchbox 20, and the Pet Shop Boys.

Tonight I started using music to keep my mind off the burn in my calves and thighs as I do my 1/2 hour on the elliptical. I have just been watching TV, but nothing is ever on so I decided to use music.

Who would've thought that Barry Manilow could give you a really great workout?
